Both kids and grandparents love brownies! They are also super popular at school jumble sales and sport club events. What’s best, brownies are really easy to make: just follow this recipe by Veikka who cooks on Carrot Kitchen’s videos.

Veikka’s Brownies

    Veikka’s Brownies

  • 4 eggs
  • 250 g sugar
  • 400 g plain flour
  • 2 tbsp dark cocoa bowder
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 200 g butter or margarine
  • 200 ml milk
  • Frosting

  • 100 g butter or margarine
  • 4 tbsp coffee
  • 4 tbsp dark cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp vanilla sugar
  • approx. 420 g icing sugar
  • sprinkles
  1. Time to get going!

Wash your hands and make sure you have all ingredients at hand.

  2. Heat the oven

Cover the baking tray with baking paper. Heat up the oven to 200°C.

  3. Beat eggs and sugar

Break eggs in a big bowl. Add sugar and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. This should take about 5 minutes.

  4. Dry ingredients

Mix wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and vanilla sugar in another bowl.

  5. Melt the butter

Put the butter in a microwave-proof bowl, cover it with a cloche and let it melt.

  6. Work on your dough

Add dry ingredients, melted butter and milk to egg-sugar foam, step by step. Mix with a spatula, but not too much so that the foam won’t get flat.

  7. Bake in the oven

Cover the baking tray with baking paper and spread the dough everywhere. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the oven. To make sure your brownies are ready, put a stick in the middle of the brownie base: no dough should stick on it.

  8. Frosting

Melt the butter. Make coffee for the frosting or use previously make coffee. Mix all frosting ingredients in a bowl with a spoon. Add enough icing sugar to make the frosting easy to spread.

  9. Decorate

Spread the frosting on the brownie base when the base is still warm. Decorate with nonpareils – just the way you want.

  10. Time to enjoy!

Let the frosting solidify before cutting the brownie base into 30 pieces.

"My brownies taste better than most brownies at school jumble sales.”

Tell us about your fav recipe? I bake brownies to our football tournaments and school jumble sales. I also make these for parties and for myself whenever I feel like eating goodies. My brownies are better than the ones sold at jumble sales because my brownie base does not fall flat. I top them with coffee & chocolate frosting.

Which Carrot Kitchen videos do you cook on? On Power Smoothie video. It’s a great training drink since it holds well for a few hours without fridge.

Did you enjoy shooting these vids? But even if something goes wrong, you can try again without hurry.

Who taught you to cook? Mostly my mom who can make nearly any food and give good advice. I’ve also received plenty of tips from my grandma who’s a chef. At home, I cook or bake about once a week.

Your favourite drink? Coke.

Whose kitchen you’d love to visit? Teemu Pukki’s – he’s the best football player! I’ve also played since the first grade, and this is my first year on higher level (Helsinki City Football Academy).
